Oravec leaves Panionios, a new club expected in January

Slovak football striker Tomáš Oravec has agreed with Greek top-division side Panionios Athens on an early termination of his contract and will be looking for a new club in January.

“Tomáš already told me back in October that he would like to leave Athens. The style of play at Panionios didn’t suit him very well. Coach Bubenko and the club owner Beos didn’t want to let him go at first, but in the end they agreed, and on Wednesday both parties reached a final agreement. On Thursday Tomáš is travelling home from Greece,” said SFZ-licensed agent Jozef Tokos, who represents the former player of 1. FC Košice, Ružomberok, Viktoria Žižkov, and Admira Mödling.

The 25-year-old Oravec joined Panionios before this season and had signed a one-year contract with a one-year option. The team, coached by Jozef Bubenko, also includes two other Slovak players – Mário Breška and Jozef Gáspár. “Where Tomáš will be playing in the spring could be decided at the beginning of January. Several clubs have already shown interest in him, but for now I don’t want to specify from which countries,” added Jozef Tokos.

Panionios has not been doing too well this season. Even after the departure of Czech coach Josef Csaplár, the Athens side has not moved up to safer positions in the table, and after 14 rounds they sit in 13th place, just four points ahead of bottom side Kallithea.
