The best Slovak goalkeeper will probably play in Poland until the end of the season
Slovak goalkeeper Jan Mucha could reportedly become a player of one of the most famous English clubs from the summer.
He played a key role in Slovakia’s qualification for the World Cup. On the transfer market, his value is said to be around 2.5 million pounds. In the history of independent Slovakia, no goalkeeper has ever attracted so much attention from top clubs. Among the interested parties were said to be giants such as Arsenal London and Scottish rivals Celtic and Glasgow Rangers. Where will Jan Mucha end up? “The time has come for him to move to a better league,” said licensed agent Jozef Tokos.
Leaving only in the summer?
According to the British daily The Sun, the main candidate is London’s Tottenham Hotspur, with whom Mucha reportedly held serious talks about a transfer in England on Wednesday. “I cannot reveal anything yet,” said the 27-year-old Mucha. However, according to the Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza, Mucha will remain at the club until the end of June, something his agent Tokos is said to have confirmed. In the summer, however, he is expected to leave with certainty, most likely for England.
Tottenham keeps quiet
The Slovak goalkeeper has a contract with Legia Warsaw until the end of the 2009/2010 season. After the season he could leave the club practically for free. Officials at Tottenham, currently fifth in the English league, refused to comment on the matter, as did Mucha himself. Mucha’s club Legia began preparations yesterday for the spring part of the Polish league. The Slovak international was absent from training. “Jano asked us for two days off. We could not refuse. After all, it’s about his future,” Legia’s sporting director Miroslaw Trzeciak was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
