Jan Mucha jr. to join Everton and compete with Tim Howard
Slovak goalkeeper Jan Mucha jr. will leave Legia Warsaw at the end of June and, according to Przegląd Sportowy, will become an Everton player from July 1, starting a competition for the number-one spot with American goalkeeper Tim Howard.
Legia Warsaw will not receive any transfer fee. Mucha signed a three-year contract with his new club yesterday in Malaga.
“I cannot reveal the club’s name. I said I wouldn’t leave for free, but the reality was that no one wanted to pay for me. I had to make a decision, and I did. I thank Legia for the excellent offer they made me, I really appreciate it. I will do everything to leave the club with dignity,” said Mucha.
He is the first goalkeeper in years for whom Legia did not earn a profit. When he joined the club in 2005, the transfer fee was €50,000.
Since last Sunday, when Legia started its training camp in Mijas, Mucha appeared thoughtful and hesitant. He had several offers and took his time to decide. The final decision was made on Tuesday. After a morning training session, he went to Malaga to meet Everton representatives and signed his contract.
Interest in Mucha during the winter transfer window was very high. His agent, Jozef Tokos, received inquiries from over thirty clubs. In the final days, he received an excellent offer from Turkish club Trabzonspor, reportedly worth nearly €1 million net, but he turned it down.
“Indeed, the interest was significant, but in the end, I had seven offers. I chose the one that may not have been the most financially attractive, but was the best from a sporting perspective. I will share more details when I am allowed,” the Slovak goalkeeper said.
