Slovak goalkeeper Ján Mucha signed a three-year contract. His new club does not want to be named yet. In Poland’s Legia Warsaw, he will most likely finish the season.
Silence and an information embargo. His transfer is still surrounded by the strictest secrecy. Reportedly, as many as thirty European clubs showed interest, including giants like Arsenal FC and the Scottish rivals Celtic and Rangers. His agent had to make seventeen flights in three weeks before an agreement was reached.
Three-year contract
Perhaps the best Slovak goalkeeper of the modern era, Ján Mucha signed a three-year deal yesterday and will definitely leave Polish club Legia Warsaw in the summer. “I am very satisfied and excited. I received a concrete offer and did not hesitate. Finally, it’s done. This is a big challenge for me. I’m going to fight and prove myself,” said the 27-year-old, who will probably finish the season at Legia. “Poland is my second home. I’ll do everything so Legia can win the title,” added the Slovak goalkeeper, who played a key role in Slovakia’s qualification for the World Cup in South Africa.
Mucha was already in England last week for negotiations. He passed medical tests. However, he signed the contract in Malaga, Spain, where Legia is on a two-week training camp. “For now, I cannot reveal the name of the club or the country, based on the explicit request of the club. The contract becomes valid from July 1 of this year,” said his agent Jozef Tokos. How long will the new club remain a secret? “I have no idea. My new employer, together with Warsaw, will issue a statement soon,” said Mucha. His agent Tokos admitted that there might still be an interesting loan opportunity before the end of the transfer window. “But he can no longer make a permanent move anywhere,” the agent added.
Will it be Everton?
Mucha came close to a transfer already last week, when he almost signed a contract – reportedly with Tottenham Hotspur. In the end, however, he may have chosen another club. Where exactly did Mucha transfer? According to Polish daily Polska, Mucha has agreed on contract terms with a Premier League club. According to our information, it should be Everton. At the Liverpool club, the current first-choice goalkeeper is American Tim Howard, who impressed last year at the Confederations Cup when he shut out Spain in the semifinal.
