Pilot project with six teams mirrors the successful cricket Premier League

The former Slovak youth international Igor Hrabáč will continue his career in a new Indian league competition. The aim of the new league is to increase football’s popularity in India, and it will feature stars such as Robert Pires and Fabio Cannavaro. The pilot project with six teams mirrors the successful cricket Premier League and will launch in February. Around thirty foreign players are involved, including former English striker Robbie Fowler and Argentine Hernán Crespo. In the entry draft, the participating clubs will choose their players – each team can sign one major star, while the rest of the squad will be completed with lesser-known players, among them Hrabáč. The salary cap is set at 600,000 US dollars. The competition is organized by Celebrity Management, which signed a 30-year agreement with the All India Football Federation. The first season will take place in West Bengal from 25 February to 8 April.

“In the draft, among the 18 lesser-known players will also be Slovak centre-back Igor Hrabáč. He himself is very much looking forward to this competition and has expressed a desire to play somewhere in Asia. His advantage may be that there are few European players there. I believe someone will pick him,” player agent Jozef Tokos told the SITA agency. The 28-year-old Hrabáč last played in the spring part of last season for Dunajská Streda, but was without a club in the autumn.
