State funding of Slovak sport is a never-ending topic. After more than 20 years, something is finally moving, and a system for distributing state subsidies has been created.

Proposal for a change in sports financing: Finally, some kind of system!

It has drawn criticism, especially from smaller sports federations, which claim that “the new system is not good.” They are not entirely right. It is not really a “new” system, but finally “some” system, since until now there has been none in Slovakia for distributing money from the Ministry of Education. It is difficult to judge whether the system is good or bad. There is no competing proposal, so the federations should calm down and try it. Theorizing is pointless, and only practice can verify the system. Nowhere is it written that it is an immutable dogma that cannot be adjusted. The aim should be that the system does not destroy any sport that works on its success, popularity, and youth base.
