The sporting Gordian knot
Zdroj: Sport, Robert KotianAccording to the president of the Slovak Olympic Committee, František Chmelár, resolving the voting weight at the General Assembly of the future umbrella organization of Slovak sport – potentially the Slovak Olympic and Sports Association (SOŠA) – is an even tougher nut to crack than determining fair criteria for the distribution of funds. A malicious critic of the critics of the so-called Tokos formula for distributing state subsidies (success times popularity) could, with a certain sense of satisfaction, look forward to seeing how the sports movement copes with this problem. But that would be petty. The Slovak sporting community, both the Olympic and the broader one, heading toward a joint umbrella organization that should represent it with a unified voice in communication and negotiations with the state, municipalities, European as well as international Olympic structures, stands at the starting line and may be realizing the Gordian knot before it.
