The goalkeeper is set to move to Russian Samara

The former number one goalkeeper of the Slovak national team, Jan Mucha, is heading to the top Russian league. The thirty-year-old could continue his career with the Russian club Krylia Sovetov Samara. According to the daily Sport, he is expected to sign a multi-year contract with the club’s management on Wednesday after completing medical tests. “I cannot confirm anything one hundred percent yet,” player’s agent Jozef Tokos told Sport Daily.
Mucha most recently played for FC Everton, where his contract expired. The native of Belá nad Cirochou had been with Everton since the summer of 2010, but due to the consistent performances of American Tim Howard, he rarely got opportunities and practically never made it into the goal. It was precisely the lack of playing time at the club level that led him last year to give up playing for the Slovak national team, for which he has so far appeared 35 times.
In the 2012/2013 season, Mucha played two matches in the English Premier League: he made his league debut on March 2 against Reading (3:1) and delivered an excellent performance in his next home league appearance against Manchester City, where on March 16 he kept a clean sheet (2:0). “That was his most memorable match in our jersey,” the club’s website recalled the brightest moment of the Slovak goalkeeper in the Toffees’ shirt.
In between, after a poor performance by the whole team, Mucha conceded three goals on March 9 in the FA Cup quarterfinal at home against Wigan (0:3). After leaving Everton, there was speculation about a possible move to Dinamo Zagreb. In his senior career so far, Jan Mucha has played for Inter Bratislava, MK ilina, Humenné, and Polish side Legia Warsaw, from where he joined Everton three years ago.
