The group of Tokos

However, from 2010 to 2012, he took on a major challenge – a revolutionary change in the financing of Slovak sport from the state budget. In the role of sports adviser, he served under the government of then-minister Eugen Jurzyca. Tokos at that time created the so-called “Tokos advisory group,” whose members included, for example, tennis federation head Igor Moško and Ladislav Križan. They were the ones who came up with the formula (success × popularity) for distributing state subsidies to Slovak athletes.
How the state divides its sports budget
For years, the financing of Slovak sport was non-transparent and tangled. This made it difficult to calculate who received how much. Today, there is a system created two years ago by the so-called Tokos group. The current leadership of the sports department has made only cosmetic changes to it. However, the total amount of money from the state budget going into sport has remained virtually unchanged for almost twenty years. This year, it amounts to €34 million. (...)
