Thanks to former minister Eugen Jurzyca and his team of advisers, a system was introduced for funding sports associations, national representatives, and talents – however, the premature end of Radičová’s government did not allow the so-called “Toko group” to bring their ideas to a successful conclusion. Nevertheless, a funding formula was created based on three criteria – the popularity of the sport, the results achieved, and public/media interest in that sport. The model set under Jurzyca, in a slightly modified form, is still applied today – after all, if you want to introduce a transparent and reasonably fair system for distributing funds in the sports community, it is hard to avoid considering the number of athletes/youth in each sport, the successes achieved by athletes at home and abroad, and the public interest in the sport in question.
