A thousand dollars an hour. That’s what you earn in Paris

Being a top footballer pays off. And being a player for the French club Paris Saint-Germain, owned by Qatari sheikh Hamad Al-Thani, pays off the most.

The average hourly wage of his team’s players is just over $1,000 – the highest among all clubs in the world in team sports. This comes from a ranking by the U.S. company ESPN, with PSG followed by Real Madrid players ($986) and Manchester City players ($978). “The French league is not as attractive for world-class players, so the club tries to lure them with high salaries,” sports analyst Jozef Tokos told the Economic Daily. Interestingly, eight football clubs make it into the top 10 of the ranking. The only non-football entries are two U.S. baseball teams – the Los Angeles Dodgers (6th place) and the New York Yankees (9th).
