If you are asked which English football club is the most famous or most popular, the answer will probably be the same — Manchester United. The club, known to fans as the “Red Devils,” is not going through its best period, at least not from an economic point of view.

This was the result of last season’s failure, when the club did not appear in either the Champions League or the Europa League. The outcome? A drop in revenue of almost nine percent. “It was to be expected that the absence from the lucrative Champions League would also be reflected in the financial results,” sports analyst and football agent Jozef Tokos told the Economic Daily.

The English club suffered from the loss of income from TV rights and ticket sales. Nevertheless, analysts believe the club could still become the world’s highest-earning football club. New kits may help — for example, a new deal with Adidas will bring in £750 million over ten years, roughly three times more than the previous contract with rival company Nike.
