Presenters:
He was sold for less than a million. Four years later, they bought him back for 105. French footballer Paul Pogba is now officially the most expensive player in the world. For his price, his new club could afford all the players in our domestic league. Maybe even twice...

Reporter:
“Is he even worth that kind of money (the €105 million transfer fee)?”

Jozef Tokos:
“After his performances at the European Championship, I think a lot of people are asking that question… Most fans would probably not say he’s a better player than Ronaldo, Bale, or Messi.”

Reporter:
“In these astronomical transfer fees, it’s often not just the player’s sporting value that counts, but also his marketing value. Part of the money is recouped through the sale of jerseys or other merchandise with his name.”

Jozef Tokos:
“In my view, Pogba’s marketing potential didn’t play as big a role in this transfer as it has in some others. His potential is definitely not negligible, it’s high, and he’s certainly an attractive figure for fans, but compared to players next to him on the list of all-time transfer records — like Ronaldo — I don’t think he can really be measured on the same scale.”
