The contract of Jozef Gáspár, the Inter Bratislava central back, with ASK Inter Slovnaft is going to expire and his manager Jozef Tokos negotiated a new job for him in the second league Japanese club Vegalta Sendai.
“Only if Japan does not work out, I will stay in Inter. Inter was interested in prolonging the contract, but I have wanted to try playing abroad,” says the 26 years old experienced defender of the yellow-black team who is looking forward to playing in Japan. “First, within a week, I should fly to Japan to undertake medical tests,” he emphasizes that the transfer is not completed yet, though a preliminary one-year contract has already been signed. Japan is an unknown country for him. “If the transfer works out, I will go to Japan with my girlfriend Nada. I will speak English, I can say only “sayonara” (goodbye) in Japan language,” he laughs.
The decision of the Vegalta management for Gáspár was based on the video. There were two video cassettes sent to the country of the rising Sun. “First, they saw extracts out of several matches and then they asked for the record of the whole game,” says the football player who is good mainly at headers and precise passes.
When Gáspár was fit, he was a member of the basic line up of the head coach Karol Pecze. He was OK in the Inter club, the club was respectable when negotiating the new contract… “I am curious as well. I am not afraid, I want to see something new,” says Jozef.
He has not asked any Slovak involved in the football business for the advice so far. “I wait for the results of the medical tests which will decide about the one-year contract coming into force,” added Gáspár. We will see whether he will follow Ľubomír Luhový, Milan Lešický, Miroslav Mentel or Ľubomír Moravčík who were playing in Japan before.
