The Slovak FA has given its national team 2 million euro more as a World Cup bonus at the expense of its own activities.

As Economic Daily finds out, Slovak football lost almost 2 million euro. That was a decision of our „football Government“ that increased a World Cup bonus for the national team squad and coaching staff led by Vladimir Weiss. The former president of the Slovak FA Frantisek Laurinec has confirmed this news: „I can confirm that the part distributed to the players and staff was eventually higher as initially expected.“

However, he has refused to disclose the reason why the players are preferred to the general development of the Slovak football. „I am not going to comment on that. I just think that the players have deserved the bonus for their performances at the World Cup in Africa, “ Laurinec added. Before the World Cup, the priority was to invest to youth sector. „We want the funds to be used for the youth players, who are the future of our football, “the vice-president of the Slovak FA said to our paper after FIFA set the rewards for the World Cup. After deducting expenditures, our FA was to receive 6.2 million euro. Out of this sum, 60 per cent was to be accepted by the Slovak FA, the remaining part Weiss and company. “The players and the staff will get 40 per cent out of the overall sum. It is up to the coach Weiss how to distribute their part whether everyone gets the same amount or some players get more,” said Strapek prior to the World Cup.

The reality is that Weiss could have had a say how to distribute a higher amount. It means that the Slovak FA can use „only“some 1,8M euro after tax for the development of the Slovak football instead of 4M euro as expected. (...) As our daily finds out, the players have already got their money. The problem is that no contract with the Slovak FA has been signed. „No contract on bonuses has been signed. There was only a declaration of the coach Weiss on their reward,“ the manager Jozef Tokos taking care, among others, our national team no. 1 goalie Jan Mucha, said for our paper.
