The Union of Football Professionals is a candidate member of FIFPro

The Union of Football Professionals (UFP) representing up to 200 members was officially accepted as a candidate member of FIFPro at the General Assembly of FIFPro in Roma. The UFP president Jan Mucha was given a certificate from the FIFPro secretary general Theo van Seggelen in the Italian capital. UFP had been an observer for the last 2 years. (...)

(...) According to the UFP adviser Jozef Tokos, FIFPro is a driver behind the reforms especially in the transfer system. The current system has not been substantially amended since 2001. FIFPro negotiates with FIFA at the international level. There have been some agreements on changes, which should be taken over by respective national football associations. „Football players are entitled to terminate their professional contracts with just cause in cause they have not been paid two basic salaries. In the past, the limit was three salaries. Players can also terminates their contracts if they are not paid a substantial bonus. The prohibition of the abuse of rights was also defined. An example of such an abuse is the following: a club wants to get rid of the player, puts him aside so that the player can train only individually. This is a breach of contract. In Slovakia, an amendment to the Registration and transfer rules of the Slovak FA is just being prepared, while the Sports Law is in contradiction with FIFA rules as to certain points,“ explains Tokos.

(...) „It is bigger and more important step to move from the status of a FIFPro observer to a FIFPro candidate member than from a FIFPro candidate member to a FIFPro full members. A representative of UFP can not run a board candidacy, but they can sit at FIFPro meetings. We should be accepted as a full member the next year. For instance, this year Monte Negro has been accepted as a full member,“ mentions Jozef Tokos.  The system of evaluation of respective national players´ associations by FIFPro is strict. The membership, the frequency of communication with players at the clubs, whether the players union is active, all this is considered...

(...) „UFP is interested in a dialogue with the Slovak FA on the female Slovak national team players the next year. This was confirmed by the election of Alexandra Biroova to the Board of UFP,“ said Jozef Tokos. UFP wants to learn from the collective bargain agreements concluded between players unions and national football associations in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and some other countries.
