Beckham has retired. Long live Messi!

According to France football, the Argentinian star scorer earned the most.  

The list of the highest earning football players in the world has changed right at the top. After the retirement of the English star David Beckham, the Argentinian Lionel Messi climbed up to the first place. He earned 41 million euro a year. „This sum has still not reached the income of the best paid world athletes. Therefore, it can still be increased,“ the players´ agent Jozef Tokos says. The yearly income of the golf player Tiger Woods is estimated more than 50 million euro.

The yearly salary was 12,5 million euro, the prize money 2,5 million euro and commercial activities 26 million euro – these figures altogether is Messi´s income. (...)

At the first glance the most stiking face for the world marketing is Messi´s rival from Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo. The expert says it is not entirely true. „These two players are very similar as far the extra football activities are concerned. Similar sums received from their commercial activities prove it,“ Jozef Tokos says. The newest list published by France football prove their head to head rivalry. The Portuguese player ended up the second earning „only“ 1,5 million euro. The best FC Barcelona player in history can become the best paid player on the pitch after signing new 5-years lasting contract.
